that old car

“Daddy, look at that old car!” a young boy of 5 or 6 says to his dad and big brother as they walked across the parking lot. I turned around because i wanted to see what car they were talking about. Turns out, it was my old car! they pointed and as they did, dad mentions “I used to have one of those. Is that a 240?” “Sure is, a 1973” I reply. “My first car was just like this,” dad explains. “Except mine was blue.” Interest in the car is starting to wayne with the little guys as dad continues…” I spent all my money to buy that car, and a week after I got it, someone rear-ended me and totaled it.” “bummer,” I reply, as if he was sharing about a long passed sibling. “They sure are fun cars.” “Sure are!” i affirmed. “Mine didn’t have that thing across the back.” “I’ve added that to make it stiffer in the rear end.” I explained. Dad and his two boys had a moment sharing a bit of history, creating memories for a lifetime…Z-style.
